Daniel Weltzien founder of Skypark Airport, had a dream of a Flying Community where people could taxi their plane to their hangar attached to their home. Concrete driveways and taxiways to the ajoining lighted, full service 2400 foot Runway made Skypark and Skylane Drive attractive to aviators. It’s convienent location, and Great Schools make it a “10″ for strong family values. The following homes are listed for sale.

One Tank Trip to Urbana Ohio (Grimes Field) I-74

                                                                           By Mike Riddle

Saturday August 17,2011 We took a  “One Tank Trip to Urbana”

We had seven  aircraft make the 104 NM trip. Weather was fine and visibility was 10 miles. Four  of the aircraft left at 0900 for the 55 minute flight. The other three aircraft flew down for lunch. The first bunch had breakfast! If you haven’t eaten at the restaurant you are missing a real treat. A full breakfast with coffee and tax for $6.42. You can’t beat that and the camaraderie, priceless! After our meal we went to the museum  which is on the field. They have a B-25, DC-3, Fairchild, T-6 Texan, and a Orthocopter which was built in 1932. It was like the one that flew in the movie ” The Rocketeer” . Better hurry though as they have sold it! We watched a DVD movie on the B-25  fly in to Dayton AFB Museum and Urbana Ohio. They had footage of the actual Doolittle Raid. What a time!  Admission was FREE and you could make a donation if you wanted to . They are restoring a  B-17 and expect it to be ready to fly in 8 to 10 years. Next year mark you calendars on April 14,2012. They are having a B-25 fly in and have 30 signed up already for the event. Save your spare change for the flight next year as we hope to have at least twenty aircraft flying down for the event from Skypark. The following Aircraft and Skypark Members made the flight down!

Cessna 172  N12526  Joel Kull  Brian Dailey

Piper Cherokee   N9444W  Doug Feesler  Jim Sparks  Mike Riddle

Cessna 172  N79978   Bruce and Carol Buncher

CLE Control Tower Tour

Posted On July 21, 2011

Tuesday ten Skypark Pilots made a trip North to the Cleveland Hopkins Airport for a Tour of the Control Tower and Radar Operations. First Karl and Walt(Combined Service 59 Years) gave use a power-point presentation of the Airport. All aspects including a push from the gate,”to cleared for takeoff” were discussed. Walt and Karl covered all Safety issues both air,and ground. All of our questions were answered.I am sure all of us had a clearer view of what CLE is now and what is proposed for the future. From the Briefing Room, we went to the tower. What a view! We observed approach, ground, tower, clearance/delivery operations. All systems were explained. From there we went to Radar operations. Walt panned out to ORD and we watched as aprox 75 aircraft were approaching and were being safely seperated. At any given time 4500 to 5500 aircraft are in the air coast to coast! As a General Aviation Student Pilot, I have always had the up most respect for ATC. and what they do. During the tour, I observed all those things we don’t see and just how much training is involved to keep us safe. A Hearty “THANK YOU” to Walt and Karl for the super presentation and tour.
